Tasty Tuesday’s: Buttermilk Biscuits

Y’all … I LOVE homemade buttermilk biscuits! Every time I bite into one it takes me back to my grandma’s cooking! My family has fallen in love with them, too. They are so easy to make, and I like to make a bunch to freeze for easy dinner nights as well. We use them for biscuits and gravy, sandwiches with shredded meat (BBQ chicken or pork), or as a side for soups and salads.

First place a piece of parchment paper on a large cookie sheet and preheat the oven to 450 degrees.

Mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt together with a whisk. Make sure to incorporate it all together.

Dice the cold butter and cut it into the flour mixture. You can use a pastry cutter or food processor, but I like to use my hands. Of course wash your hands first and be prepared to get a little messy. πŸ™‚

Pour the buttermilk into the mixture and carefully work it together until the dough starts to form.

Dust flour on the counter and put dough on it. Work the dough with your hands for a couple of minutes. I fold it a couple of times, flatten down, gather it together, and repeat.

Flatten the dough into a rectangular shape until they are as thick as you want them (about Β½ inches).

Using a circle cutter cut about 12 biscuits. (I use an old top to a water bottle.. I’m pretty classy! It’s what I had on hand and was the perfect size. You could buy a biscuit cutter to use as well.) My circle cutter is pretty small so I get around 20 – 22 biscuits.

Place them on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes. If you have smaller sized biscuits it may take less time. Start checking on them around 12 minutes. If you have extra, place in a freezer bag in the freezer to use at a later date.

Remove and let cool for one minute. Enjoy!
