March Date Night In Box: Throwback

… Oh yes it’s 80’s night .. cue the music in your head! LOL. Maybe it’s because it took my hubby and I back to our childhood or maybe it’s because we had so much fun during our date night in .. but this month’s theme may just be my absolute favorite! It brought up so many memories from the late 80’s and 90’s for us!! We seriously laughed so much during this date night!

We started with eating the Poprocks because um only the best fun candy ever lol. While enjoying them we did the table talk section titled, “Whatchu Talkin’ Bout Willis”. The only question we didn’t know about each other already was what our first tech gadget was. But the questions like I said took us down memory lane!! One question, “What was a regular weeknight dinner like with your family when you were growing up? Were there rules? What was your favorite home-cooked meal?” actually started another conversation about why dinner time at our house with our kids is so important! I love that these questions get us talking out of the norm. My hubby even told me after this month’s date that the conversation part and the questions are what he likes because it gets him out of his comfort zone. He’s not super easy with communication and conversation that goes deeper than the usual day to day things. We’ve been together for 15 years so his logic is we already know everything about each other. Which is true, but this gets the communication flowing. This allows our relationship to grow even more.

We then did the couple of activities they had. The first was the Trivia from the 80s and 90s. I surprised myself (and my hubby!) and knew over half of them. My hubby knew a few as well. Together we were able to get 14 of them right out of the 20. The next was oh . my . goodness . a walk through my childhood. I can’t tell you how many times I played M.A.S.H with my friends! So many times wishing for that Mansion and not a Shack … chanting ‘not the pinto car, not the pinto car!’ … and praying I’d get my crushes name! LOL That’s what we did to entertain ourselves kids before there were cell phones! And my favorite part – I got to use the colorful pen that is seriously my favorite! I remember having one as a kid and feeling so awesome because I could write in ink in what ever color I wanted!! This M.A.S.H. game brought out some thoughts as well as two of the categories were Relationship Goals and Long-Term personal goals. It was fun talking about what those were. We then played the Truth or Dare Karaoke game. I will say scratching off the category was fun, but also a glittery mess. This is where my hubby had me belly laughing out loud. Him belting out ‘Livin’ On a Prayer’, telling me his most embarrassing moment, and do his best version of air guitar … quite entertaining!! I loved every second of it!

Now comes our ultimate favorite part of these boxes – the Faith portion. From this month’s faith portion it focused on if we are seeking to live out what we truly value; asking the question, “What do I really want?” often and how it relates to what God wants for us. Some of the questions from the reflection portion really brought up some great discussions together. I also love that it ends in a prayer we pray together. This part definitely continues to help us grow with Christ in our relationship, and I absolutely LOVE that the offer this box!

We could have done even more with the menu they shared for us. If you’ve read my previous date night posts, we typically skip these as we have dinner with the kiddos. They did give you a kit to make your own freeze pops which would have been fun with the walk down memory lane. After our evening of talking and fun games we finished it with one of the recommended movies – “Dirty Dancing” .. because um hello classic!! And it was the perfect one to finish the night cuddled up on the couch!

If you are interested in trying one of these fun date night in boxes you can check them out here! They also offer kids night in boxes – you can check out my review of one here!

Much Love,

Chef Charley
