    Family photos

Do you take yearly family photos? In our family we take them at least once a year, sometimes twice. I’m pretty lucky, though, because I’m a photographer and so is my sister in law, so we can take them pretty much any time we want! My husband loves me oh so very much because of it! Even before we took yearly family photos, I ALWAYS had to capture any and every moment we had. Kids grow and change so much the first few years of their lives that it’s nice to take them a couple times a year. When they get a bit older just once a year will be…

Sometimes You GET to Be a Human Pillow

As I think about this year’s Fourth of July celebrations with two young kiddos, I feel exhausted, but extremely blessed. My husband is the president of the Chamber of Commerce in our town, and they run the annual Old Fashioned Independence Day Celebration each year, which is fantastic for our community! However, it means that Daddy is preoccupied for most of the day. We got to listen to his speech and eat lunch with him, but we enjoyed the festivities without him. It was a day spent in the hot, hot heat (we’ve had a heat advisory for the last couple of days!) full of hotdogs, ice cream, snow cones, lemon…

    Summer Bucket List

This summer is the first summer I can actually ask my 4 year old daughter what SHE wants to do. So, I thought that making a summer bucket list would be fun to do! She LOVED that I asked her what she wanted to experience this summer. She came up with most of these all by herself; I only had to prompt her a couple of times! Making lists has always been my thing. I seriously make lists for anything and everything. Having a list is a way to help me make sure everything that I need or want to do gets done… and I feel AHHHMAZING every time I…

    Library Visits with My Oldest

This summer has been a fun one so far in the sense that my oldest is now 4 and a half and loves to do ‘big kid’ things. (Her words lol) I’ve recently started taking her to the library in town just the two of us. She gets so excited to go on Saturday mornings when Daddy stays home with her baby sister. It means that she gets quality time with just her momma, AND she gets to pick out her own books. Her love for books is one thing I passed on to her, and I’m so thankful for that. I take her with me, and she gets to…

    Tribute To Haley

Today has been 14 years. 14 years. It seems like so long ago, and yet sometimes it feels like it was just yesterday. You have been weighing on my mind quite a bit lately, and the pain of missing you has been occurring more than I thought possible after all these years. You introduced me to Limp Biskit and Casting Crowns. You made me fall in love with the Bachelorette. You taught me how to make my first ever recipe. You taught me that driving with the windows down and the music blaring loud was the best thing ever. You taught me Aussie hair products were the best. You taught…

    Summer Fun Schedule

I’m not sure about anyone else, but I am the type of person that thrives on schedules and plans. I’ve noticed if I don’t list out things I want to get done, I either am so lazy nothing gets done or I totally forget about it! That’s why I love schedules! Maybe it’s the teacher in me … I loved having a schedule every day with my students. I made a fall schedule for my 2 and 4 year old this past year, so I thought I’d make a summer one too. I LOVE themes, so I figured out some fun ones to go along with the days of the…

    Father’s Day Gift Ideas

It’s almost June which means Father’s Day is just around the corner! I’ve always struggled for some reason with Father’s Day gifts; Mom’s always seem easier for some reason! I decided to list some ideas for others who are lost this year, too. I hope this list helps you find something special for Dad. After all, a dad’s love is unconditional, and it’s nice to show him some appreciation for all he does for you and the family! 🙂 Steak dinner just you and dad. One on one time is always valuable, especially if you don’t get to see each other as often as you’d like. New gadget: wallet, fitbit,…

The True Meaning of Memorial Day

This past Monday was Memorial Day. A lot of people have cookouts and get-togethers to celebrate the American holiday. People often use the holiday to mark the beginning of summer. It is the start of the summer, and it is a good day to celebrate as people are off of work. I don’t know if many people know the true meaning, though. Memorial Day is a day observed to remember those soldiers who lost their lives fighting for our country and freedom. They are the ones that are no longer with us. As a kid I knew it was a holiday to celebrate soldiers and freedom, but not necessarily the…

    Creating Family Traditions

When I think of traditions I often think of the holidays. For instance, the day after Thanksgiving we have a tradition of listening to holiday music and sipping hot chocolate while decorating the Christmas tree. My husband and I also have a tradition of watching “It’s a Wonderful Life” on Christmas night. However, a tradition doesn’t have to be on a holiday. It can be any time of the year and be whatever you want it to be. I’ve read about a family that has a tradition of a “Yes” day every year where they say yes to the kids for whatever they want that specific day. For instance, they…

    Electronics at the Table

One of my biggest pet peeves is the phone out at dinner time. Call me old fashion, but it really gets me! Many a time my hubby and I have had a disagreement over having the darn thing out. I know in today’s world electronics and social media has become the norm. I personally don’t want to be so absorbed in the online world that I miss some of the most important things happening right in front of me. I feel like dinner is family time. I’ve always felt like it is a nice time to reflect on the day and share what’s happened. And although our daughters are still…
