The royal wedding’s got me like …. ahhhh …. amazing …. speechless …. emotional …. reminiscent …. happy.
This past Saturday was the famous royal wedding of Prince Harry and actress Meghan Markle. I’ve watched Suits for years so I knew who Meghan was before she started dating bad boy charmer Prince Harry. I’m sorry, I don’t care who you are and what you say, their love story is a fairy tale! If you look at each of their lives separately, it’s like they were seriously made for one another. At 11 years old Meghan stood for equality for women, she’s done some amazing things in Africa being an ambassador of World Vision and getting clean water in areas that didn’t have it, and has been a woman’s advocate in front of the UN. Prince Harry does a lot of charity work for the Royals and also because of what his mother, Princess Diana, had started before she died. They are humanitarians and seem to just want to make a beautiful difference in this world.
It was such a nice change to see something positive and uplifting on Saturday as there are so many evil things happening around the world. The royal wedding was a beautiful little peek into their relationship. The way they looked at each other … I mean for real. Marry someone who looks at you the way they looked at each other. You could seriously tell they are smitten with each other. The fact that Meghan had some of her culture present in the ceremony speaks volumes. The sermons … wow! So powerful! Her dress was simple, yet gorgeous as was her hair and make up. I feel like that speaks to who she truly is. They both looked extremely happy to have found each other. When Harry whispered to her that she looked amazing and he was so lucky … I mean are you for real?! Swoon! (And to find out that he ‘hunted’ down the dress designer at their reception to personally thank her for Meghan’s dress. He thought she looked stunning!!) I may or may not have cried a bit. All I could think was that little boy who lost his momma at such a young age has finally found someone he loves. And when the choir sang “Stand by Me” so beautifully breathtaking … wow I teared up again!
As a part time wedding photographer, weddings are somewhat special to me. I kid you not, I tear up a lot during clients ceremonies. What can I say, I’m a helpless romantic. My all time favorite part of a wedding is when the groom sees the bride for the first time … the look says it all! I also look forward to the vows .. especially if they write them themselves. But even if they don’t, the looks they give each other seriously screams to all the guests how much they truly care for each other. You can’t deny the looks that Prince Harry and Meghan gave each other during their vows!
During the ceremonies I photograph, I often think about my own wedding day. Watching the royal wedding was no different. My wedding was no where near extravagant. We had been together since we were 17 and almost 5 years later we said ‘I do’ in a seriously simple ceremony on a pier in Orange Beach, AL. There were no chairs; people stood. We didn’t have a big reception, just a dinner with our 43 guests that were our closest family and friends. I remember it stormed terribly for about 3 hours the morning of, and a man fished off the pier during the entire ceremony. I didn’t have a care in the world though because at the end of the day I knew I’d be married to my best friend. Our wedding was small, intimate, and so beautiful… in my own biased opinion! 😉 …. And my husband looked at me the way Prince Harry looked at Meghan. I found my very own prince.
Duke and Duchess of Sussex (as they are now known as) are both strong and kind human beings that truly love each other. I seriously can’t wait to see what they do in this world!
How about you all? Any body feel the love watching the royal wedding? I’ve seen some negative things written about it and of the new Duchess of Sussex. I don’t know why this world can’t have a little more positivity and uplift others. We need more kindness in this world!
And because I’m feeling sentimental and emotional from the royal wedding here are some of my favorite wedding photos from my beautiful day almost 9 years ago!
